Amanda and Sarah- For Mom

Had a photoshoot of two lovely senoritas this past week, and let me tell you! They are fireballs when put together!

It must have been something in the air to attract siblings, first my own and then these two. Actually, it was set up with the secret intent to be a mother's day gift, but I won't blow it as it seems her mom is also a friend on facebook and, well, tagging them in the photos sort of ruined the surprise!

But Ah-ha! Never to fear for creative ingenuity if here!

Somewhere. Around...

Here.

Anyhow! This sought to remind them and others, that parents enjoy pictures of us kinderlins. Think of it, when is the last time you took a photo with your family? I bet it wasn't your idea, was it? While you might not think of it now, it's certainly not inherent in the minds of those in my age persuasion, a box of photos five, ten years down the road means a lot more than a box of chocolate ever will.

Who knows what will happen during that time. A baby, a move, a gain, a loss. We tend not to think of how important these things are/will be to us.

But Mom's know. Something about having a kid, perhaps, that ingrains this seed of "Capture their lives to be remembered". Perhaps it has to do with the knowledge they earn through time's passage. They watch it elapse, understand the fragility of it.

Yet a picture remains something physical you can hold in your hand. Remember. It's a more vivid version of a memory. It can make you remember, long after the musty smell of hiding in a closet because you'd tried to trim your own bangs and thought triangles made your face look good. (Why else would you cut them into your hair?)

That's great thing about pictures. Unlike smells, unlike textures, it can't be two things, it can't be everywhere. It's one static moment that instills all of the time surrounding it; the meaning and depth behind it.

Mom's know.

So, for you, Mrs. Amanda-and-Sarah's-Mom. Your lovely daughters; as the are today, as you remember them 20 years ago, as they will be remembered 15 years from now.

We made it!

Finally, after a thousand attempts and years of struggle (ok, it was really just a couple times pulling up their Yelp page and finding that we missed their open hours AGAIN), we made it to an apparently well-known and much-favorited (is that a real life, one that you can really use in real life, or just an "internet real word?" Hmm...) little taco/burrito joint.

I've been called a rookie because I didn't know it existed.  I've been teased for knowing so much else about the city I have called home for the past 5 years, including which is the longest of the piers in the area (it's not the one that is closest to Mexico!!) that I can seem like a born-n-raised-in-SD-lifer, but not knowing about this spot.

So I'll bet you're excited to see some awesome shots of the burrito that Chelse got.  Or a quick-n-dirty Instagram shot of my 5 rolled tacos, all lined up in their delicious order?  Well...you're out of luck.  We had exactly zero cameras with us on this adventure.  Gasp.  Double-gasp.

Zero cameras!  Not one hidden in the trunk, not one jamming in a front pocket, nothing.  We could not even take pictures of the super awesome and entirely too filling dessert we had in Coronado along with 50c worth of 78rpm oldies, either.  After stuffing our faces there, and catching up on caffeine with an awesome Breve Latté (an old trick ensuring you'll get something drinkable or better even if the espresso isn't perfection, from my time behind the counter as a barista), we hit the Goodwill before blazing back home.

NO DESSERT PICTURES.  I can't believe I just typed that.

Mini review post to come!  Happy Thursday, everybody!

It's too beautiful!

It's way too beautiful here in San Diego to be inside.  Walk the dog, polish the car, head over to the neighborhood block party.  Maybe more coffee?

I'll be back with another post, possibly a new blog post series I've been thinking about.  What are you folks doing today?

~Kelby and Julian~

As stated below by my love, it was quite the day on Friday. =] We had an epic photoshoot with Kelby and Julian and in the midst of the action, our keys jumped ship! Thank goodness for kindness, spare keys and friends!

Onto the shoot! Kelby was such a sweetheart, but she had a strong kick to her! (That a girl!) Kind and confident, she rocked the shoot. Not to mention Mr.Cool, Julian. =] While the quieter of the group, when he did pipe up, we were all laughing!

Such a great time. =] Thank you both so much!

Friday...

Last night, while falling asleep with my darling and wonderful girlfriend, I could have sworn it was early Tuesday morning, after a difficult Monday at work that left me wondering where all my coffee went, and why my head hurt so badly.

Let me explain:

First, we've been out of readily edible (I love those two words together, I just discovered!) food in the house for about a week now.  We've gone shopping in that time at least twice, and both times had to juggle bags in our arms between the two of us to get in the apartment.  It wasn't a problem of having nothing to eat, but stuff that actually went together in a better fashion than dark chocolate gelato with vodka sauce and sweet pickles.  I will admit, I have not tried that combination, but the pickles may just pull it all together.

So we've been scrounging and finally improving our technique on the Julia Child method of French omelettes, but my tolerance, nay, my propensity for butter and eggs can only be satiated for so long before I want to chew on un-cooked lasagna noodles and drink gallons of water to get away from the delicious richness of it all.  We have been scrounging and improvising.  We've been eating less at home, and usually driving somewhere having our sit-down meal of the day together on the freeway at 65mph.

Secondly, we make it to the photoshoot scheduled at Lake Hodges after running around all morning on errands and missions, and promptly lose the keys to the car in the beautiful grass, or somewhere on the trail, or wherever it might have gone.  So the shoot went well, until we realized we had lost the keys, and we lost more light than I liked in looking for them and freaking out a bit, but I feel we did quite well overall.  Working on being personable and talking through the camera, which I keep making excuses about why I'm terrible at it.  Chelse is a huge help here, she picks up right when I start thinking too much about the images or potential issues with the gear.

What follows, to finish the day, is a 50 square mile loop to a friend's house, in-depth conversation with a 3-year-old, and then drinks to forget the rest of the mess.

It's time to get serious, so serious we shall be:
